Behind the Bar: Local 510

It’s a true honour to be dubbed the local hangout in a growing city with a small town feel. Local 510 (510 17 Ave S.W) lives up to its name with Wild West inspired digs in the heart of the city. Playing host to a variety of clientele, this very cool watering hole attracts the artistic, young and old.

Local offers an excellent mix of traditional and updated pub fare in a hip setting with sharp wood paneling and a rustic wagon wheel chandelier. Think modern day saloon with bicycles parked outside instead of horses. Well-known as a stellar venue for live music, they showcase local DJs and bands in the area.

And if you are a true local, we know you must live for the summer – the wrap-around patio gives you a taste of the 17th ave hustle on a warm breezy night but keeps you tucked away under a canopy of string lights.

Whatever the season, the refreshingly low key staff will happily pour a pint to cool you off or have you cozy up to the bar.  While you’re there, you might as well explore all of their excellent draught options and inspired cocktail menu.

Need to keep those eyes open? A Corpse Reviver ($12.50) might be in order, mixing Beefeater Gin, Cointreau, Lillet, Lemon Juice and Absinthe. Or if you’re enjoying a ride on the bourbon bandwagon, try Local’s Boulevardier ($12.50) blending Campari, sweet vermouth, orange zest and Buffalo Trace bourbon. Can’t decide? Stop by on a Thursday and try any 2 oz. menu cocktail for $9.00. In the meantime, Local’s Happy Hour doesn’t require a mad dash from the office – hi-balls, non-imported draughts and all wines are on for $5.10 from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. We’ll drink to that!
