Cue the patio beers and t-shirt weather, spring has arrived in Calgary and the 17th Avenue Business Improvement Area and its businesses are celebrating with the return of ‘Business is Blooming,’ a four-week calendar of events and promotions that will encourage Calgarians to embrace spring and support local on Calgary’s favourite street.
This event will run from April 16 to May 14, and will include four themes: Eat, Shop, Play and Explore. Each theme is highlighted for one week and will feature events and specials that tie in with the theme— think exclusive sales on spring styles during shop week; paint and sip nights, drag shows and trivia during play; workshops and fitness events during explore; or tastings and food and drink promos during eat week, which kicks off on Sunday.
“Here on 17th Ave we are officially saying goodbye to winter and hello to spring with our second year of Business is Blooming”, said Tulene Steiestol, Executive Director of the 17th Avenue Business Improvement Area. “This is a way to support our businesses by showcasing their live events, new menus and promotions taking place over the next four weeks. It is a great time to stroll the avenue while shopping and supporting local.”
Calgarians will also have an opportunity to win prizes through an interactive scavenger hunt app that will run in tandem with the calendar of events, and reward those who take part! Throughout the month, participants can win amazing prizes by completing fun challenges on 17th Ave such as having a happy hour beverage at one of the many Red Mile pubs or attending live music at a venue along the avenue. In addition to the ‘Business is Blooming’ calendar and scavenger hunt chock-full of spring promotions and events throughout the month, the 17th Ave Business Improvement Area is also collaborating with local art gallery, Paint Ur Art Out and their roster of artists to create spring-themed murals on the doors of 21 businesses to add a pop of colour and vibrancy to 17th Ave while we wait for Mother Nature to do her thing.
