There’s nothing better than witnessing the spirit of giving, especially during the holidays. Check out these amazing 17th Ave businesses and what they are doing this month to support our community. Let this act as a reminder and inspiration to all of us to give back during these trying times – this can be something as small as leaving a positive online review about a local business, or donating to one of the below charities. It is in times like these that we are reminded how important it is to support each other and our local community.
Fishman’s YYC – Charity Coat Drive
Fishman’s has always been actively involved with hundreds of different local non-profits over its 75 years in business, and this year they continue their community support with a charity coat drive. From Nov. 15 to Dec. 15, Fishman’s Personal Care Cleaners will be accepting new and gently used coats, scarves and gloves of any size in support of WINS (Women in Need Society).

Ship & Anchor – Homemade eggnog with proceeds going to charity
For more than 25 years, this local favourite pub, Ship and Anchor, has been serving up their “Best Ever Homemade Eggnog,” with proceeds going to charity. This year, $5 from every glass and $10 from every bottle will be going directly to charities such as Calgary Drop-in Centre and Centre for Newcomers. And because of increased COVID-19 restrictions, you will also be able to order the famous “Shipnog” to go!

Trolley 5 – ‘Brewing Kindness’
Each week, Trolley 5 Brewpub is ‘Brewing Kindness’ by picking a different local charity, organization or cause – past recipients included The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary, Rocky Mountain Animal Rescue, and the Ronald McDonald House, to name a few – and they then donate the proceeds from the first 20L keg purchase to the week’s chosen charity. Although the holidays are known as the season of giving, Trolley 5 gives year round. Check out their Instagram page to see who the proceeds are going to this week!
