E-Scooters Back to Calgary and 17th Ave

E-Scooters are back! After many long-awaited winter months stuck inside, the arrival of two new e-scooter companies on Calgary streets has the city buzzing. On May 27th, The City of Calgary announced that they have awarded contracts to shared e-scooter companies, Bird Canada and Neuron Mobility, to operate this Summer within the city, and both can be found on city streets by May 28th.

Bird Scooters Hitting the Streets of Calgary Again

The Canadian owned and operated company, Bird, may look familiar, as they participated in Calgary’s initial pilot program and have been available for rental in past years. In addition to the 750 scooters they’re making available to Calgarians, they have also chosen Calgary as their Canadian operational headquarters.

Calgary Also Welcomes Neuron Mobility E-Scooters

Calgary will also be one of the first North American launch cities for newcomer, Neuron Mobility. Like Bird, they will also be providing 750 of their scooters onto Calgary streets. Fun fact, Neuron’s e-scooters are fitted with the world’s first app-controlled helmet lock, and a safety helmet included with each scooter.

Rider Safety And Rule Updates

Before you ride, make sure you review the City’s latest updates to rider safety, which can be found here. Some of their most recent updates include:

  • Each device will have a highly visible unique identification number to help make it easier for The City and citizens to report poor e-Scooter behaviours.
  • Limiting the number of e-Scooters to 1500 devices to help reduce parking and sidewalk clutter issues.
  • You will be able to ride a shared e-Scooter on roadways with lower speed limits and lower volume of traffic such as 13 Avenue S.W.

We can’t wait to zoom around 17th Ave on Bird and Neuron scooters this Summer. For more information on Calgary’s e-scooter pilot program, rider etiquette, COVID safety and where and how to ride, please visit calgary.ca
