Tucked away off a busy avenue corner, Ming Asian Bistro And Bar (520 17th Ave S.W.) has been painting the town red since 1997. The mostly underground lounge is dark and atmospheric, with cozy corners, red-lit tables and black leather booths. The dramatic space is intimate with a communist vibe and features a politically-driven cocktail list named after dictators and peacemakers alike.
Known for their martinis (and ginger beef, of course) it is no surprise that their vodka collection is extensive. A quick look at their bar and you will find yourself pondering the possible mixology for PB & J, cookie dough or marshmallow vodka. Their martinis are certainly a treat.
So what to sip on? A Ming favourite is the Marco Polo – Stoli vanil, Malibu, pineapple and lime juice finished with a bright blue sugar rim. Or the Gorby – vodka, Triple Sec, grenadine and raspberries finished with citrus pop rocks. Want to explore your options? Enjoy the Trotsky or Che Guevara too. Remember, your vote always counts at Ming.
