Since winter can’t decide if it’s coming or going, we’re savouring every moment with 17th’s alfresco dining options. Enter Market (718 17th Avenue S.W.), an avenue favourite that keeps us coming back for more with inventive cuisine. Their perfectly placed patio is welcoming guests so long as the sun is shining, and on a 20-degree day in November, we found sun, flavour and chill vibes in their dining room.
Market has won more awards than we could list, and chef Sean MacDonald’s creativity continues to shine through their menu. With specials throughout the week and a lunch feature that’s hard to beat, Market’s the perfect stop for live music on a Thursday, or half price bottles of wine to beat the Monday blues.
We stopped in on Taco Tuesday, when you can score Market’s famous duck confit and fish tacos with unexpected pairings on delicious crepes for only $3 a pop. After indulging in the bite-sized goodness, keep the flavours coming with the Prix Fixe Lunch. $25 gets you a soup or salad, sandwich and dessert. We opted for the green salad to whet our appetite and devoured a reigning customer favourite: the fried chicken sandwich. Served on focaccia with cabbage slaw, pickled carrot and bacon, this flavour-packed creation didn’t last long on our plates. To wash it all down? An irresistible chocolate and pistachio mousse.
Market’s team is committed to making every ingredient in house. What they can’t make, they source locally and the result is a menu that packs a punch and gourmet flavours that you can feel good about. Next time you’re looking for a chic but cozy spot to settle in for a bite, head to Market and remember what all the fuss is about.
