Comery Block may be located in Calgary, but the minute you step into this downtown barbecue joint, you’ll feel the Western Tennessee flair emanating from the Nashville nightlife inspired décor, the mile long list of whiskey and bourbon, and of course, the authentic barbecue style meats served up on platters with mouthwatering sides.
Since its June 2019 opening, Comery Block has not only established itself as one of Calgary’s best barbecue joints, but also as one of Calgary’s best restaurants. Just this spring, they were nominated as one of Avenue Magazine’s Best New restaurants of 2020.
Barbecue Dishes Served by the Half Pound
Served by the half pound, you can dive into hearty dishes like brisket, turkey, pork ribs and pulled pork, which are smoked for anywhere between 10 and 14 hours each morning. Or, go for the hot chicken, a beloved Tennessee dish, which can be served mild, medium, hot, crazy or, for the brave souls who dare to try it, the XXX.
Your Favourite Southern Sides
A true barbecue dish is not complete without a medley of sides and Comery Block is not lacking in their selection of southern favourites such as: collard greens, corn on the cob, and sticky baked beans. Diners can also add a variety of trays to their meals, which features smaller appetizer style dishes such as deep fried pickles, wings, mac and cheese, and wedge salad.
Bourbon, Whiskey and More
Nothing compliments a tray of smoked meats and barbecued sides quite like a cocktail, heavy on the bourbon. Go for something classic like their Double-Smoked Old Fashioned, made with buffalo trace bourbon, sugar bitters and smoke & peat.Or test your adventurous side and try something you haven’t before from their list of over 200 types of whiskey and bourbon. If whiskey is a little strong for your liking, they also have a selection of draught beers and wines.
Head down to Comery’s massive wrap-around patio on 17th Ave SW for one of their weekly specials such as their half priced wings on Wednesday or brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. They also have a happy hour from 3-6 p.m. Monday to Friday, where all whiskey is half price. ANNNDDD if you’re late to the party, their half pound meats are half priced after 10 p.m.
