Being Mindful on the Ave.

With fall comes new beginnings that force us to slow down and declutter the noise in our minds and in our homes. It’s a season that welcomes the art of getting cozy, so whether you’re looking to be more mindful this fall of what you wear, how you spend your money or just how you’re feeling, the Ave has everything you need to help you stay on track.

SalvEdge Consignment Boutique

Walking into SalvEdge Boutique (1013 17th Ave SW) is a step into consignment heaven. 17th Ave welcomed SalvEdge to their new location just five short months ago, and since opening their doors, their consignment program has flourished. We met up with founder Krista Hopfauf who gave us the scoop on their program.

Our consignment program is all about upcycling on-trend and high-end pieces for both men and women.

“We choose items based on quality, condition, style, season and brand value and we work with the consigner to give them a 40% return on their clothes within 3 months of bringing it to the boutique, so it’s a fairly seamless process.”

You can expect to find labels such as Burberry, Alexander Wang, Vince, Tory Burch, Wilfred, Free People, J. Crew and many more with a smaller price tag than you’d see in any mall. Get a bit overwhelmed when shopping consignment? Be sure to check out the rack of “Staff Picks” for both men and women to get you started.

“It’s just a matter of putting together looks that suit one’s personal style and lifestyle, which is something our staff and social media channels easily assist with,” says Krista. “Whether you’re a minimalist looking for statement pieces, or just love fashion and are always on the hunt for something new, consignment offers endless choices and saves you money.”

About the Bra

Brand-new to the ave is About the Bra (908 17th Ave SW) a lingerie store specializing in professional bra sizing, and helping us take a second look our skivvies and talk about the bra!

About the Bra is a boutique that wants to introduce the process of a proper bra fitting, so women can be mindful of their bodies and purchase a bra that is both comfortable and flattering. Little did we all know, standard bra sizes only fit a small percentage of women and many are in need of a wider range of cups and bands. About the Bra offers bras starting at size N cup and ranges to a 28 band – all in cute, sexy and basic styles.  A stop into About the Bra means that no matter what your size, you’ll leave feeling confident in your clothes on the daily.

We offer professional fittings to ensure your bra is supporting and lifting where it’s needed.

Annette, owner of About the Bra shares “Posture plays a big part of finding the right undergarment. When a bra is professionally fitted, it prevents neck and lower back strain and pain, and your clothes fit as they’re supposed to.”

Stop in for a fitting in their new location in the beautiful historic Devenish Building and stay tuned for news on their grand opening in mid-October.

Lorenzo’s Pizzeria

Enter Lorenzo’s Pizzeria (515 17th Ave SW), an authentic family-run pizza joint on the Ave, perfect for a post-shopping pick me up. The decor is simple and reminiscent of old-time Italy with its red and white tablecloths and black and white photographs lining the walls.

If you weren’t craving all the cheesy eats Lorenzo’s has to offer, you will be once you step into this little eatery with the smell of freshly baked dough simmering in the oven. From classic toppings to specialty flavours, there’re plenty of delicious options for you to choose from. Pick up a slice, a full-sized ‘za or choose from their Antipasti, Insalate and pasta offerings. You won’t find a more authentic pizza for a better price anywhere else in the city!
