New to the Ave: Calcutta Cricket Club
Step off 17th and swing into cosmopolitan Calcutta of the 60s. Brought to you by Thank You Hospitality (the fine folks behind Native Tongues), Calcutta Cricket Club (340 17 Ave S.W.) is the latest colourful – mint green, to be precise – addition to the Ave.
Credit the completely unique ambience to partner and local artist Maya Gohill, the room pairs perfectly with a thirst-quenching bar list and savoury spiced eats. This new watering hole pulls inspiration straight from the source: think Raj-era cricket and football clubs of India meets Golden Girls, with a side of fast and fun street food.
Find a shady corner underneath a painted or real life palm, order up some Kati rolls (a go-to Bengalese snack) and a pint of local draught like Banded Peak or Common Crown, to name a few, and you’ve got the makings of a perfect summer night.
Doors open at 4 p.m. on July 5, so get the gang together and get in the game.
