With a combined background in engineering and interior design, Richard and Doris collaborate to create meaningful spaces. Richard’s work is technically challenging and inviting, “embracing the unique ethos of each project.” His dual ability to be creative and metric has earned him recognition in the Top 40 Under 40 award in Calgary, as well as the American Institute of Architects’ Award of Excellence.

DMA’s main focus is creating socially sustainable spaces, which they apply to their own office just off of 17th. Given an opportunity to expand in 2009, they undertook a full renovation by their own hands in keeping with the design philosophy of the firm: create spaces with a purpose. Unique is several ways, DMA undertakes projects far greater than the typical architecture firm. With the desire to create something personal and unique for each client, the team is driven to design and build for varying spaces and budgets. A few of DMA’s recent projects vary from as small as 600 square feet at Block Kitchen & Bar in Banff, to a 3400 square foot residence in Upper Elbow Park as well as a complete exterior refurbishment of the Calgary Golf and Country Club.

The wildly talented team of architects and designers who call DMA home reveal their avenue favourites – Analog for staying energized, Una Pizza, Cleaver and Pigeonhole for exceptional meals and several special material stores like Walls Alive for new projects and inspiration. Having worked closely with a number of businesses on the Ave, refreshing tired building fronts or realizing dreams for patios, a perfect day sees the DMA group out supporting clients and raising a toast to point of view, framework and perspective.
