17th avenue has a wild reputation for food and drinks, but it’s time to warmly welcome Victoria Park Crossfit as the newest, coolest social outlet on the avenue. With a killer central location, this new hub for health and wellness is easily accessible and has all kinds of street cred. High ceilings and brick walls make the space feel like a trendy workout loft, but the welcoming faces of owners Mike and Jennifer Attersall are what seal the deal here.

Mike has been involved in CrossFit over the past five years and has been coaching the sport for the last two years. He runs the overall operations of the studio as well as creates the programming cycles for the athletes with the help and insight of his fellow coaches. Jenn has been involved in CrossFit over the past three years and her love for the sport lead to her becoming a certified Level 1 trainer this past year. Jenn heads the CrossFit 101 – Fundamentals program at the studio.

At VPCF beginners are welcome and wanted – you can feel it in the design of the space. Mike says the design motivation was “creating a space that felt welcoming and less intimidating, especially to those who have never been exposed to CrossFit.” They encourage athletes to come and hang out before and after their workouts, reinforcing their keen focus “on building an environment that appealed to the community aspect of CrossFit.”

To see results in the realm of CrossFit, Mike reveals a handy hint – working out with friends. He says “whether you’re coming with friends or coming in solo; CrossFit has a great community where the athletes are always having fun with one another talking and pushing each other.”

They also offer a partner rate – come in with a friend, family member or a loved one and sign-up together to take advantage of this promotion. After a workout with Mike and Jenn, you’ll certainly want a pal to enjoy a nice cold beer on a 17th ave patio.
