Beadles Beads & Jewellery (1606 7th St SW) is the avenue’s littlest treasure chest, filled with the most colourful treasures. Since 1990, owner Sienna fills her shop wall-to-wall and shelf-to-shelf with beads from all over the world. Her collection includes semi-precious stones, wooden beads, Swarovski crystals, Italian murano glass, pedants and charms. Beadles is a little DIY haven with everything you need to make your own jewellery, including chains, wire, leather, braid cords, hemp string and clasps.
Custom design is a Beadles staple – bring a photo of any piece of jewellery from red carpet to earthy inspiration and the team here will recreate the goods by hand. Broken chains or fashion jewellery in need of a mend will also find a home here – Sienna does in house repairs and will have you out the door again in one shiny piece.
Purchase your supplies at Beadles, and jump into a free drop-in class, available everyday during store hours. Evening classes and workshops are also available ranging from beginner beading to Indian bead looming. November 25th marks their next workshop on making jewellery and gifts with chakra healing stones. Class begins at 7pm and is only $20 for an hour and a half tutorial — receive 20% off any purchase made that evening.
With new shipments arriving weekly, the inventory selection here is always growing. Trays filled with MALA beads, jars full of feathers and spools of thread and chain – this is YYC’s own treasure hunt and Beadles marks the spot.
