Witty, whimsical and never dull, Steeling Home (1010 17 Ave. S.W.) is a trendy general store that’s bringing the best of the offbeat directly to the avenue.
A treasure trove of quirky gifts, vintage finds and one-of-a-kind pieces, Steeling Home started in 1993 as a co-op venue for local artists looking to showcase their wares. When it first opened, the focus was on hand-forged iron and steel — hence its name – and is today one of the city’s go-to destination for great home decor and funky accessories.
Store owner, Jennifer Leblond, sees her shop as a collection of treasures and surprises. An experience for the senses, Jennifer’s space is packed with textures, colours, arts and jewels; you can surely spend an entire afternoon exploring.
Products vary in price, but there’s something for every budget. “You can buy two items under $10, or one item for $800,” says Jennifer. The finds are unique and the quality evident, as shown by this vintage-inspired flask, for example, that makes for a stylish jaunt up to the mountains.
And jewellery isn’t just for the ladies; gents can shop here too, for everything from tweed hats and stylish neck ties, to cuff links, gold coins, Roman glasses and handmade bird skulls.
Steeling Home is the perfect destination for finding gifts for those on your list that are just plain tough to shop for.
