Small Flower

Less ‘New to the Ave’ and more ‘New Look on the Ave’, Anne Paterson’s Flowers has blossomed into Small Flower Floral Studio with a new brand and a fresh new energy. It’s been 18 years since Elli Jespersen took over the iconic flower shop, and while the boutique itself has been a staple on 17th, so has owner Elli, and maybe even more so. The faces behind the bouquets and unique arrangements that you’ve come to appreciate will stay the same, but with two decades of flower power behind her, it was time for Elli to make the brand her own. We stopped in to congratulate Small Flower on their big change to see what’s new, and what’s coming next for the floral studio.

What’s the meaning behind the new name?

A small flower has so much impact in this world. We’ve been a part of so many important moments in people’s lives and know how special a flower can make someone feel, and how it can express love. We see ourselves as small flowers and we see how our lives have impact. Small Flower captures the beauty of flowers, the connection they create, and our passion for creating one-of-a-kind pieces for everyone who comes into the studio. Our customers have always felt like family to us, so we’re building something that fits perfectly for someone we love.

More than a flower shop, Small Flower now carries a selection of goods from 17 small batch local artisans including, Cheeky Monkey, Patterson Cabin’s, Pickle and Francois, Gillian Mitchelle Ceramic, YYC Bees Wax , Bruces Beez, Meadow and Moss, as well as Glimps Glass.

What’s new in the store?

We’re offering a hands-on workshop on Thursday evenings, and we’ll begin offering private workshops either at our 17th Ave studio, or at a location of the host’s choosing. We’re also excited to start offering weekly and monthly floral subscriptions, which include free delivery.

As a gift to our customers, we have Flower Happy Hour every Friday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, offering 50% off all of our regularly priced flowers.

What’s coming up?

Our Woodlands Tablescape Workshop is February 16, where participants will learn the fun and simple techniques to create their pieces of art using foraged wood, along with dried, fresh and natural products.

March 16 is our Kokedama Workshop, where participants will learn about the poor man’s bonsai or string moss ball gardens, and create three pieces to take home.

We’re adding new workshops all the time and invite customers to subscribe to our newsletter to keep up with what is happening in the studio.

We want to thank our amazing customers. We’re honoured that they bring our flowers into their lives.

Congratulations Elli and Small Flower Floral Studio! We’re thrilled to have you on the Ave, and as part of our tribe.
