Our 17th Ave. Street Style Huntress, Aldona B., winds up 2014 with the very stylish, Bradley Walker. Catch up with Aldona as she and Bradley talk heirloom cuff links, bold plaids, and what makes 17th Ave great.
Aldona B: “I met Bradley Walker, principal of Strike Communications Inc., about five years ago and it’s taken me all those years to finally get him in front of my camera. The convincing was certainly not easy – it took a holiday party, a couple laughs, and some spilled wine to finally sway Bradley.
To say that I’m thrilled to finally showcase his personal style here is an understatement, and I’m sure you’ll agree with me when I say he was worth the wait.”
What’s the one thing in your closet you couldn’t part with?
“I’m so grateful to have a selection of cufflinks from my father and grandfather. I love wearing them.”
How has your career influenced your personal style?
“I’m often the first face of my clients and artists [I represent] on stage. The opportunity to represent them and experience a live performance is something I regard as extremely special. The live connection between artist and patron is a moment in time that will never be repeated and I believe that deserves respect. I consider my career an honour, and I have never taken it for granted. I live and breathe what I do.”
What’s your favourite part of 17th Avenue?
“Being on 17th means you’re at the centre of it all! In addition, the area brings together a range of people from all walks of life and backgrounds. That’s what makes this neighbourhood so special and one of the best in the city.”
You live off 17th Avenue. What made you choose to live in this neighbourhood?
“My partner and I love the lifestyle of living in the downtown core; we’re close to work, friends, great restaurants, and Calgary’s dynamic arts & culture scene, plus the city’s stunning river walks. We love walking along the paths of the Bow and Elbow rivers.”
How would you describe your personal style?
“From suit and tie during the week, to jeans and a ball cap on the weekends.”
What do you think is the most important part of pulling together an outfit?
“Being comfortable and authentic. Just make an effort!”
What fall/winter trend are you most excited about?
“Fabulous sweaters, layers, and the return of bold plaid patterns”
What are some of your favourite spots on 17th?
“Freak Lunchbox – who doesn’t love fresh bulk candy in a take-out box? I also love Brava Bistro for the lobster poutine, and Golden Bell Saigon is a hidden gem for Vietnamese in the city.”
What else would you like to see on 17th Avenue in the future?
“Wider pedestrian sidewalks and more public art.”
