Street Style: Charly Goss

She’s passionate about fashion, and it certainly shows. She captures her outfits and shares them on social media on a regular basis, and I’m always excited to see what Charly Goss will be up to next with her personal style – which of course also includes adorable hair and fun makeup. Goss’ passion for fashion is contagious, as is her outgoing and happy demeanour – so stopping in to see her at 27 Boutique is always a treat and a pleasure – and maybe a little difficult (but so worth it) on the wallet.

How would you describe your personal style?
I’m a Calgarian by way of London & Toronto so that darker urban sensibility is always there. I also love adding in more free-spirited pieces for contrast and whimsy. Urban Bohemian? I’m sure that’s a thing!

What do you think is the most important part of putting together an outfit?
HEELS! And proper fit!

What’s one thing in your closet you couldn’t part with?
My grey Zara car coat – It makes everything look polished and pulled together. I can throw it over simple jeans & a tee, or a party dress – it’s so versatile.

What current fashion and beauty trends are you most excited about and why?
I’m loving the dark lips and the menswear influences we are seeing as winter approaches. Menswear is generally simple and sharp – think flat shoes, leathers, wools. It feels like the uber minimal normcore styles from last fall grew up a bit this season.

Anything you would never do when it comes to fashion?
There’s nothing I would NEVER do – but I do tend to stay away from things that feel really girly. I’m quite petite, and anything fussy, pink, poufy or frilly makes me look like a baby in a Sears portrait. Not exactly what I’m going for.

Something within fashion you can’t wait to try that you’re yet to do?
My wedding dress! I’ve tried on a TONNE and nothing has really stuck. It must have sleeves, and it must make me look like Gisele Bundschen. It’s out there – I know it.

What’s your favourite part of 17th Avenue as a whole?
The street style!! People watching is such amazing outfit inspiration, and often a predictor of trends we’ll see on the runways in coming seasons. 17th has this wicked mix of people and there’s always outfits that make me think, “I need to try that”!

What are some of your favourite spots on 17th and why?
Pizza at Cibo, duh! We always sit at the kitchen bar, it’s so underrated. Watching the behind the scenes chaos at a busy restaurant is so fun, and gives you such a different experience than the dining room. Tomkins Park, there’s always something happening – art, dancing, music.

What else would you like to see on 17th Avenue in the future?
The old American Apparel space* is empty now, so I’m dying to know what ends up there – c’mon H&M!
