Street Style: Emily Moore

Emily Moore is eclectic. Her style is ever-changing, and it’s clear that she has a great time experimenting with her personal look. From bright lipstick or a nude shade, a leather jacket or a flowy dress, Moore can be seen rocking out all of the above and so much more.

How would you describe your personal style?
It’s all over the place. People frequently say “I almost didn’t recognize you, you look like a completely different person every time I see you!” My favourite looks tend to be rock & roll, flower child, or retro glam (with a smattering of some other random characters in there…)

What do you think is the most important part of putting an outfit?
I like to find the one piece I want to wear the most and build the outfit around them. The most important part is to look in a full-length mirror to see how the silhouette is coming together – it usually takes a few tries before I’m happy with it. Don’t be afraid to stand out, being different is a good thing.

What is the one thing in your closet you couldn’t part with?
My black leather biker jacket from The Kooples. Till death do us part.

What current fashion and beauty trends are you most excited about and why?
I love that we live in a time where people can pull inspiration from anywhere. They are free to express themselves and there’s not just one “it” look. My favourite resurgences are the 60’s British mod and psychedelic styles with bold prints, short dresses and tall boots with grown out bangs, the 70’s gypsy bohemian looks with kimonos, bell bottoms and floppy hats and 90’s grunge with band tees, ripped jeans flannels and choker necklaces.

Anything you would never go when it comes to fashion?
I’m not really into the whole plastic surgery, bondage dress, bling and visible extension look. Sometimes less is more.

Something within fashion you can’t wait to try that you’ve yet to do?
I would love to go back to Japan and get some harajuku girl outfits.

What’s your favorite part of 17th ave?
People watching, familiar faces and being able to get everything on one street.

What are some of your favorite spots on 17th and why?
Local 510 for a pint and good music, Model Milk for cocktails and comfort food, USED for vintage clothes and jewelry, Leo for classic yet interesting staples, The Coup and CRU for healthy delicious food, Modern Duke and Steeling Home for gifts or treat yo’ self home items, GoodLife on 17th for fitness with a downtown vibe, and last but not least, Caffe Beano for a coffee and milkshakes.

What else would you like to see on 17th Ave?
A gourmet popsicle/ shaved ice spot, less chains and more local independent stores, more affordable boutique shops, and a really rad music venue.
