Street Style: Krista Hopfauf

For the past few years, Krista Hopfauf has been a consignment store owner of the recently re-branded salvEdge Boutique, and her love of style and fashion has grown alongside her business. She clearly loves what she does, and that love reflects in her personal style choices. She can be found rocking her favourite bomber leather jacket, and a bold lip to finish off her outfits, which is exactly what she did on a beautiful November day on 17th Avenue.

How would you describe your personal style?
I think my personal style is both simple and bold; often with bright colours and patterns, denim, and sometimes neutral. For my neutral outfits, I like to pair edgy elements and accessories like leather, patterned stockings, zippers, faux fur and chunky jewellery. It tends to go from borderline boring to off-the-wall sometimes.

What do you think is the most important part of putting together an outfit?
The most important thing is not to forget the accessories. I think it’s important to dress to reflect your personality and mood and wear something that is appropriate for your shape.

What’s one thing in your closet you couldn’t part with?
One thing in my closet that I couldn’t part with would be my leather jackets – they are definitely a year-round staple for me. It feels a little bit rock n’ roll.

What current fashion and beauty trends are you most excited about and why?
I love that over the knee boots are popular this season – they’re stylish and sexy and add interest to any outfit. As a fan of bold patterns and colour, I also like the 70s inspired fashions that seem to be in right now. Bold lip colours are fabulous and I would like to try a bronzer going into the humdrum of winter to add colour to my skin.

Anything you would never do when it comes to fashion?
For my size and shape, I would never wear anything super A-line, shapeless or oversize because it just looks like I’ve drowned in fabric. I love high waist skirts but definitely can’t wear high waist pants/jeans.

Something within fashion you can’t wait to try that you’re yet to do?
I want to experiment more with mixing patterns and textures and add interest with layers.

What’s your favourite part of 17th Avenue as a whole?
My favourite part of 17th Ave is between 4th Street and 10th Street. There’s a little bit of everything – great food, coffee, salons, shops, and an eclectic group of people.

What are some of your favourite spots on 17th?
My favourite spots on 17th Ave are Corbeaux, Anju, Ox & Angela, and Purr.

What else would you like to see on 17th Avenue in the future?
I would like to see more independent shops on 17th Ave…maybe a designated area for food trucks and mobile stores. In the summer, more sidewalk patios. A vibe like Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco or Bucktown in Chicago.
