Born and raised on 17th, Evan Woolley has spent most of his life on the avenue. While his new role as Councillor for Ward 8 keeps him busy, he still finds time to return for a visit to some of his favourite spots on 17th.

Best coffee shop?
My family actually owns Caffe Beano so there for sure, but I also love Analog – I hang out there a lot.
Best spot to grab a bite?
Buon Giorno. Their crab stuffed mushrooms are the best menu item in Calgary. I also used to work at Brava Bistro, their crispy chicken is my second favourite menu item in the city. Cilantro is fantastic as well, and I’d have to pick Una as my favourite late night hang out.
Go to spot for an after work meet up?
I like to spend time at The Ship & Anchor and Local 510.
Best shops on the avenue?
I shop at Purr, Leo, and Reid’s – that place has a ton of awesome stuff.
Describe your ideal day on 17th Ave.
I’d wake up on a Saturday morning and grab a newspaper before heading to a coffee shop to give it a read and chat with some buddies. Then I’d do some shopping, grab lunch somewhere along the way, and then find a spot on a patio for the afternoon. 17th Ave is a great place to spend the day!
What is your favourite part about having 17th Ave in your Ward?
It’s a really vibrant community with so many great people.
What are your hopes for 17th Ave during your time as Ward 8 Councillor?
I’d like to see even more vibrancy, activity, culture, and public art, while still maintaining a focus on safety.
