The Original Good Earth Coffeehouse is located just off 17th Ave on 11 Street SW and was founded in 1991 by founders Nan Eskenazi and Michael Going. The pair had a goal of opening a down-to-earth café that serves wholesome foods and excellent coffee, and now nearly 30 years later, you can pop into one of their more than 40 Good Earth Coffeehouses located across Canada.
Wholesome Food and Delicious Coffee
What’s a coffee shop without really good coffee? Good Earth has direct trade relationships with the communities where their coffee is grown, meaning they work directly with the coffee roasters and farmers who grow the coffee. This allows the team at Good Earth to not only choose the farms based on the quality of their coffee, but their social and environmental sustainability practices as well. Right now, they’re currently featuring Buena Vista Holiday Roast from Guatemala, which boasts notes of stone fruit, dark chocolate and caramel.
Soups, Sandwiches, Baked Goods and More
The thought that goes into sourcing their coffee applies to their food as well. Good Earth’s ingredients include fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, real eggs and fresh dairy, and all menu items are made in their kitchens, fresh daily. Savour menu items like their slow-cooked steel-cut oatmeal, lentil and bean stew or kale pesto flatbread – a perfect breakfast or lunch on a cold winter day. In addition to their selection of various breakfast dishes, soups, salads, sandwiches and flatbreads, they also carry a large selection of fresh baked goods.

This quintessential coffeehouse is the perfect place for a midday pick-me-up. Go for a latte and pair it with a bakery item such as their caramel apple muffin or banana chocolate chip loaf. And although Alberta restaurants are currently closed for dine-in services, you can order your favourite Good Earth Coffeehouse goodies online, or for pickup.
