Trendy Interiors, Fizzy Gin Cocktails and Indian Cuisine at Calcutta Cricket Club

Despite only opening in the Summer of 2017, Calcutta Cricket Club has garnered quite the reputation – not only as one of Calgary’s top restaurants, but as top restaurant in Canada as well.

A Top Calgary Restaurant

This Indian-inspired 17th Ave spot has raked in accolades left, right and centre, including nods from Best of Calgary’s Best New Restaurant in 2018, Avenue Magazine’s 25 Best restaurants in 2018, Canada’s 100 Best, Best Designed Restaurant in 2018, and Canada’s 100 Best, Top 100 Restaurants in Canada, to name a few.

Calcutta’s Swanky, Moroccan-Inspired Interior

A product of Thank You Hospitality Group, Calcutta Cricket boasts a swanky interior from designer Maya Gohill. The local designer combines bold wallpapers and tiling with lush pink suede chairs, and vintage pieces like Tiffany antique lamps, to create colonial, Raj-era vibes with a vintage feel.

Kati Rolls, Chilli Chicken and Other Mouthwatering Small Plates

Although the interior is what catches your eye and draws you in, it’s the outstanding selection of Indian food paired with fruity, fizzy cocktails that will keep you coming back. Start your meal off with one of their small plates such as the chilli chicken, a hakka classic that comes fried and sautéed with sesame, soy and green chillies. Or go for always popular Kati rolls, which are Tandoor grilled meats or Paneer wrapped in a flaky paratha. They’re so good they get their own section on the menu.

Classic Indian Favourites for the Main Dish

After you’ve nearly stuffed yourself full with Paneer Kati Rolls, it’s time to move on to their variety of curries and classic Indian dishes. Go for perennial favourites like Butter Chicken Masala, which is their take on the original recipe created in the 1950’s by Moti Mahal in Delhi, or Goan Prawn Vindaloo, which comes with jumbo shrimp in a tomato and poppy seed curry – this dish is spicy, you have been warned!

Timeless Indian dishes always pair well with side dishes like garlic naan, or onion salad, so be sure to check out their complete list of other accompaniments you can add to your order.

Fizzy Gin Drinks to Wash Down Your Meal

The crushable Gin & Tonic made with Beefeater gin, mango, chili and lime or the Mango Lassi Gin Fizz, complete with Beefeater gin, Mango Liqueur, Mango Lassi, egg-free foamer, soda and lime will compliment your curry dish perfectly. Good luck limiting yourself to just one.

Calcutta’s Tasting Menu and Happy Hour

Special occasion coming up?  Calcutta Cricket’s tasting menu, which comes with three courses of Indian goodness is perfect for a date night or birthday dinner, and allows you to taste a variety of their small plates and curries.

Join them for Happy Hour Monday to Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. and snack on food and drink specials, or enjoy their delivery and takeout options, which include specials such as their $5 Kati Rolls on Sunday, 25% off Curries on Monday, and special pricing for Crushable Gin & Tonics on Tuesday.
