They are proud to be an all women-run store. Velour Clothing Exchange also supports and curates many pieces that are made local, by Canadian artists and by top designers.

Janis Isaman is another entrepreneur on 17th Ave that is crushing it. She is a single mother, Movement Specialist and Owner of My Body Couture. Janis created her businesses because of the lack of solutions she had with her injured her runner’s knee. Like some women, she also struggled with getting her body in shape even with 2 hours of exercise a day.

Jarna Tikkanen is the current manager at Frank and Oak and has been a member of the team for 5 years. She is a constant inspiration to her staff members. Jarna was chosen to be featured by Bianca, her Assistant Manager. Bianca says it has been a great experience working with Jarna, she motivates the staff and has the kindest heart Bianca has ever come to know.
5 years ago, Jarna came to Calgary from Finland knowing only two people. Since then, she has built her own community, has started a career with Frank and Oak and has remained strong through all the difficulties life threw her way. Bianca says “I am so happy to not only have her as my boss but as a friend. She always finds a way to smile and motivates the people around her to do the same. Her soul and energy is beautiful and she deserves all the recognition possible.”

Sandra Bueckert is the Owner of One on One Personal Fitness. In 1982 at 16 years old, Sandra discovered body building. She had picked up a body building magazine and thought “Could women really look like that?”. From then on she lived and breathed to train. During that time, women who were body builders were unnatural and unfeminine but Sandra didn’t give a damn about what people thought.
Sandra has won numerous competitive titles and in 1989 opened One on One Personal Fitness. At 23 years old, she was offering instruction in her client’s homes or at gyms where her members were clients. Since then it’s grown into a personalized fitness studio where clients of over 20 years continue to see Sandra. She has dominated the health and fitness industry and has been featured in numerous media outlets.
